Synopsis- In Raising the Bar: Rigor, Metacognition, and the Common Core Classroom, Sania Green-Reynolds leads an engaging and practical session that challenges educators to move beyond simple compliance with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) toward fostering true cognitive rigor and student ownership of learning. Through modeling, guided practice, and collaborative reflection, participants explore how to design challenging, standards-aligned tasks that promote critical thinking and metacognitive awareness. By the end of the workshop, teachers will be equipped with actionable strategies to integrate rigor and metacognition into daily instruction—empowering students to think deeply, learn independently, and take responsibility for their own academic growth.
